Then check out The Art Institute of Phoenix and enroll in Saturday Studio. These interactive art classes will help you develop new skills, sharpen your existing talent and connect with other creative high school students from all over the Valley. Additionally, you'll enjoy a real-life college environment and experience what it would be like to continue your education at an accredited art and design school. These hands-on classes are taught by our professional faculty Saturday mornings, 9:00 AM to 11:30 AM. Classes are held for 7 weeks at our campus at 2233 West Dunlap Avenue, Phoenix, Arizona. Choose from three creative courses and get started on letting your creativity shine!

  • Audio & Video Production
    • Students will explore the complete process of producing a video from Camera, Sound, Lighting, and Editing. Techniques for picture and producing sound will be included. The workshop will give students an opportunity to explore the modern audio/video production process.

  • Digital Photography
    • Beginning students will be introduced to basic technical aspects of photography and will then apply these skills to an exciting project of storytelling. Each student will work on developing a collection of images that will be published in their own personal photo book. Art photography and photo essay will be the main focus of this workshop as students learn about and explore image creation. Students will learn a few publishing skills as they edit, design and publish their work in a 20 page softcover book.

  • Observational Drawing
    • This course teaches students the fundamentals of drawing. Students will experiment with various materials and tools, explore various techniques, and develop their observation skills. Students will be introduced to different drawing styles, and the creation and development of sketchbooks. Exercises and assign­ments will be presented indoors as well as outdoors. Upon completion, students will have a greater understand­ing of the many components that will help them build competency with their drawing.

  • Painting Techniques
    • This course is designed to open the minds of students to painting with oils, and push the edge of that proverbial creative envelope. They will start out by exploring the tools used in painting, and how these tools are used differently for oil painting as opposed to acrylics. Then they'll learn to mix their own colors, create under-paintings, build up washes, and finish off with glazes. They'll learn how, why and when to stretch their own canvases. They'll explore typography, and add words to paintings. Upon completion, the students will have created several compositions that have meaning to them and move their audience, all the while having lots of fun getting dirty.

  • Advertising & Graphic Design
    • Design the band's new logo and create new marketing materials, including an advertising and branding campaign, concert posters, and CD packaging to appeal to the band's target audience.
  • Audio Production
    • Workshops will introduce the process of audio recording, including microphone placement, signal processing, and basic recording techniques.
  • Culinary Arts
    • Enjoy working in the school's professional kitchens under our chefs' close supervision. This workshop's grand finale will be to create a buffet for the band.
  • Digital Filmmaking & Web Design
    • Interview, photograph, and videotape the band in order to develop, edit, and produce a music video concept. You'll also explore basic web design skills and create concepts for the band's new website.
  • Digital Photography
    • Work in a group to produce photographic images that will be used in the band's promotional materials. The technical basics of digital photography will be covered, including camera operations, exposure control, composition, and lighting.
  • Fashion Marketing
    • Produce a wide range of fashion-related marketing materials for the band, such as concert t-shirts, a visual marketing campaign, and retail display for the band's next big concert.
  • Game Art & Design
    • Workshops will introduce the process of creating 3D models and textures for video games using a variety of industry-standard software.
  • Interior Design
    • Design the band's bachelor pad - from concept and layout to furniture and finish selections to presentation. Hands-on workshops will use a variety of materials and techniques to bring your ideas to visual reality.
  • Media Arts & Animation
    • Explore traditional animation, 3D modeling, and character design skills through the development of animation concepts and shorts.

These projects will be presented to the band, fellow students, instructors and parents on the last day of Summer Studio during the week's grand finale.
