Then check out The Art Institute of Phoenix and enroll in Saturday Studio. These interactive art classes will help you develop new skills, sharpen your existing talent and connect with other creative high school students from all over the Valley. Additionally, you'll enjoy a real-life college environment and experience what it would be like to continue your education at an accredited art and design school. These hands-on classes are taught by our professional faculty Saturday mornings, 9:00 AM to 11:30 AM. Classes are held for 7 weeks at our campus at 2233 West Dunlap Avenue, Phoenix, Arizona. Choose from three creative courses and get started on letting your creativity shine!

  • Digital Photography
    • Beginning students will be introduced to basic technical aspects of photography and will then apply these skills to an exciting project of storytelling. Each student will work on developing a collection of images that will be published in their own personal photo book. Art photography and photo essay will be the main focus of this workshop as students learn about and explore image creation. Students will learn a few publishing skills as they edit, design and publish their work in a 20 page softcover book.

  • Observational Drawing
    • This course teaches students the fundamentals of drawing. Students will experiment with various materials and tools, explore various techniques, and develop their observation skills. Students will be introduced to different drawing styles, and the creation and development of sketchbooks. Exercises and assign­ments will be presented indoors as well as outdoors. Upon completion, students will have a greater understand­ing of the many components that will help them build competency with their drawing.

  • Painting Techniques
    • This course is designed to teach students the fundamentals of painting techniques and color theory. Students will first learn to use observational based techniques through drawing to record a variety of subjects, followed by an introduction to color theory and mixing, preparation of the canvas, composition, blocking in colors, brushwork and edges. Additionally, students will gain further understanding of other components necessary to make good paintings, such as, learning to use highlights, mid-tones and shadow, atmospheric (or aerial) perspective, hue, value, intensity, color temperature and color neutralization.

Summer Studio is an opportunity for freshmen through senior high school students to participate in fun-filled, interactive, and educational workshops. Teens can explore their artistic talents, and gain a better understanding of their career options in the design, fashion, media, and culinary arts. Additionally, they will enjoy a real-life college environment and experience what it would be like to continue their education at an accredited art, design and culinary school.

  • Advertising & Graphic Design
    • Students will redesign the band's logo and create new marketing elements including an advertising and branding campaign, concert posters and CD packaging to appeal to the band's target audience.
  • Culinary Arts
    • Students will enjoy working in the school's professional kitchens under our chefs' close supervision. The workshop will lead up to the students creating a buffet for the band's backstage "Green Room".
  • Digital Filmmaking & Web Design
    • Students will interview, photograph and videotape the band in order to develop, edit and produce a music video concept proposal. Additionally, students will explore basic web design skills and create concepts for the band's new website.
  • Fashion Marketing
    • Students will produce a wide range of fashion related marketing materials for the band such as concert t-shirts, a visual marketing campaign, and retail display for the band's next big concert.
  • Game Art & Design
    • Students will create 3D models for a video game concept based on the band using a broad range of software.
  • Interior Design
    • Students will design the “Green Room” for the band, including a design concept, color palette, space planning, drafting 2-dimensional floor and furniture plans, and turning them into a 3-D concept.
  • Media Arts & Animation
    • Students will explore traditional animation and character design skills through animation concepts developed for use in the band's new music video and website.

These projects will be presented to the band, fellow students, instructors and parents on the last day of Summer Studio during the week's grand finale.
